Juno

Juno is a Mini-ITX small-form-factor computer built around the Intel Z370 chipset, chosen for its simplicity and reliability in a compact package, for use as an OPNsense firewall router. It's built on the ROG Strix Z370-I Gaming motherboard for its space efficiency and feature set, and powered by an 8-core, 16-thread Intel Core i9-9900KS with a 5.0GHz all-core overclock and a 4.5GHz ring overclock.

It features 16GB of Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro (CMH16GX4M2E3200C16W) memory allowing for an overclock of 3800MT/s C19 in 2N mode @1.35v (19-26-26-52) with completely fine tuned sub-timings and turn around timings for high bandwidth, low latency and temperature focused reliability.

For the OPNsense operating system, it uses a Western Digital Black SN850 1TB NVMe SSD operating at a limited 3.5GB/sec per PCIe 3.0 specification. I went with this SSD so that if the hardware is ever to be upgraded in the near future, it will be capable of utilizing PCIe generation 4 speeds.

OPNsense is an open-source firewall and routing platform built on FreeBSD, designed to turn general-purpose hardware into a dedicated network appliance managed through a web interface. It handles the core duties of a network edge device, including stateful packet filtering, network address translation, policy-based routing, DHCP, DNS resolution and filtering, VLAN segmentation, and traffic shaping. It supports WireGuard, OpenVPN, and IPsec for remote access and site-to-site tunnels, and includes inline intrusion detection and prevention through Suricata.

Airflow is handled by two Noctua NF-A14x25 G2 used to cool the 25GbE Intel E810-XXVDA4 Network card as well as circulate air throughout the inside of the case. For the CPU cooling, I opted to use the low profile Thermalright AXP120-X67 paired with a Noctua NF-A12x15 fan. This setup allows cold air to be drawn from the intake vents on both sides of the case, through the computer's internals and then exhausted out of the opposite sides with minimal chance for hot air to recirculate through the system.

Juno aims to be an efficient 8-core, 25GbE firewall router built for high availability.
