This build is to replace my bosses aging laptop. For our work we use AUTOCAD Civil 3D and Arc GIS quite regularly. Both of these programs scale well up to 12 threads but they are heavily dependent on clock speed so the 8700k was chosen over AMDs comparable offerings. A good GPU helps render the maps we use so I selected the 1070. We could have gotten by with a GTX 1050 but we didn't want to need an upgrade for a while. The 8700k is at 5 Ghz on all cores at 1.32V and the GPU has a +75 on the core and a +150 on the memory. CPU maxes at 68C under stress testing and the GPU hits 70C after an hour of Heaven benchmark. The case was chosen due to its smaller stature and decent airflow. We travel to meetings so having a system that is portable was very high on the priority list. My only complaint with the case is due to the inverted motherboard layout combined with 90 degree pins on the motherboard instead of vertical ones getting everything hooked up was quite a pain. All the fans in the system were swapped to Noctua ones to help move lots of air but not be oppressively loud.
