Introduction
Mochi is an ITX, small form factor computer based on the AMD X870 chipset and represents the best of my mainline rig in a high-performance, portable package with minimal compromises. It was designed and built on the ROG Strix X870-I Gaming WiFi motherboard for its robust overclocking potential for both CPU and memory. At its heart, it is powered by a delidded 16-core, 32-thread AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D with an overclock of 5.5GHz on both the 3D V-Cache cores and the non-3D frequency cores with an FCLK overclock of 2000MHz.
It is paired with an NVIDIA RTX 4090 Founders Edition with an overclock of 3.0GHz and features 32GB of binned G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo (F5-6000J2636H16GX2-TZ5NR) memory, each paired with an IceManCooler ICE-HSG full copper water block allowing for an overclock of 8000MT/s C32 in 1:2 mode @1.62v (32-16-46-38) with completely fine tuned sub-timings and turn around timings for the absolute lowest latency and highest bandwidth at the given clock speed.
Storage
For the operating system, it uses a Western Digital Black SN850X 1TB NVMe SSD and secondary Western Digital Black SN850X 4TB NVMe SSD for storage, both operating at 7.3GB/sec.
Airflow and Cooling
Airflow is handled by dual Phanteks T30 fans at the top of the case which aid in drawing hot air away from the CPU heatsink, memory heatsinks, motherboard VRM and graphics card. Cold air is drawn directly from the outside of the case on both sides, through the computer's internals and then exhausted out of the top of and rear at up to 3000RPM.
Due to the delidded nature of the CPU, it has been equipped with Thermal Grizzly's AM5 High Performance Heatspreader with liquid metal between the processor and upgraded IHS. The CPU itself is cooled by a Thermalright AXP90-X47 Full Copper heatsink and cooled by a single Noctua NF-A9x14 HS-PWM 92mm fan.
This multi-chamber passthrough setup for the various high-strung and high-performance components means that the system can achieve a highly efficient cooling profile under heavy load and remain virtually silent at from an average distance in the living room.
Conclusion
Mochi aims to be an ultra quiet and highly efficient 16-core, 4K 120Hz dedicated gaming and emulation machine for the living room and on the go that is designed to be expanded upon indefinitely.
