The Eye of Horus
The Eye of Horus is an ancient Egyptian symbol of protection, royal power, and good health. The Eye of Horus is similar to the Eye of Ra, which belongs to a different god, Ra, but represents many of the same concepts. (source: Wikipedia) I wanted to give my computer these symbolic qualities in a red and black theme.
The original case is completely unknown. No one I've asked has been able to identify it. The closest assumption from what I can tell is that it's probably by Rosewill. If you can figure it out I'll give you 100$. There are no identifying marks of brand anywhere and I received it second-hand.
Custom work with paint and Dremel tool:
- The entire case was taken apart and spray-painted black.
- Silver accents were painted red.
- The sidepanel had a window cut out and a piece of plexiglass cut and slightly bulged with heat because the V8 was too tall.
- The Horus symbol was sketched and painted on by hand.
- The rear sidepanel had a giant Horus symbol cut out and I plan to put a diffused plate of plexiglass behind it with red LED strips in the future.
- The frontpanel IO flip-down cover has several velcro patches to attach SD cards and adapters to.
- The drive bays covers were glued together and had dual triangles cut out and sanded with a spare Thermaltake fan glued in behind it.
- The light-bar on the front was replaced with two red LED's instead of a single white, and the HDD indicator LED was changed from green to red.
- The HDD's, V8, screws, and several internal spots in the case were accented with red details to fit the theme.
- IO panel, USB, and audio cables are custom sleeved with red/black paracord.
- Asus motherboard has had the green and blue LED's removed because after every restart the LED's default back to the full-color cycle.
- Corsair Dominator Platinum had the silver bar removed and the LED's were replaced with red ones.
- The PS4 controller has a custom designed skin.
All thermal pads and paste in the entire rig was replaced with either Fujipoly Extreme 17W/mK, GP-Extreme 12W/mK, Conductonaut, or Kryonaut. The CPU IHS and cooler has been lapped.
GPU has these mods:
- Shunt mod
- LM on the core
- GP-Extreme 12W/mK pads everywhere
- Mounted a full GPU heatsink and fan onto the backplate with thermal paste and pads
Some featured pictures may be outdated and will have older and now replaced components:
Thermaltake Smart 700W
Enermax Revolution X't 630W
MSI RX 580 8GB Armor MK2 OC
MSI RX 580 4GB Armor OC (Bios upgrade)
MSI RX 480 4GB Armor OC
MSI R7 370 4GB
MSI Optix G27C
Dell 1907FP
G.Skill Ripjaws Z 32GB (4x8GB)
Silicon Power Slim S60
The TV on the far right is displaying a PS2 with FreeMcBoot installed and is running games from the rig through SMB and a crossover ethernet cable.
What I still have yet to do:
- Red/Black sleeved PSU cables
- Plexiglass and LED's on back sidepanel
- Modified floppy drive bay covers
- Better SSD (M.2 970 Pro)
- Two other curved monitors like my Samsung instead of the HP and Dell
- Paint or buy a new desk
