Finally upgraded from my i9 9900K. I know the Z790 is considered 'end of the road' because that's how intel usually do to their chipset generations, but I really like the white theme of the Z790 Apex. It's been a while since Asus released a white pcb motherboard, last I remember was the TUF Z170 Sabertooth (CMIIW).
I use my pc for casual gaming and work. I chose i7 13700K because I don't think I'm going to able to utilize the i9 to its full potential and that'll be a waste. Also, I was thinking about building fully air-cooled pc, which I think even the Noctua NH-D15 will struggle to cool an i9 13th gen. To keep the temp below 100, I undervolted the i7. I'm not a pro tuner, so I just looked for the info on the internet, followed the procedure and then decided to use my current undervolt setting because I think it's the best after some testing (some even crashed). Please let me know if I made a mistake or something.
I chose the torrent because it's an air-cooling oriented case, and I didn't go with the original torrent because it's too big for me. The downside of this case is that it's not easy to find RTX 40 series that will fit without sacrificing the front 180mm fans and those that fit only come in black. But then again, the 40 series is too overpriced for me, so I just stick with the RTX 3090 strix and it matches the white build perfectly. Another downside (for me) is the space for cable management. I used custom psu cables because I thought it would at least reduced the amount of cable to manage compared to using extensions, but the cable management is still PITA.
