Death Tower

So, the parts list does not list all of the custom water cooling parts, so I will list those out here. 2x Thermaltake D5 pump/res combos, 2x EKWB 560mm radiators, 11x Noctua 140mm 3000 RPM PWM fans with the radiator mounted fans on a 8 fan Thermaltake controller. EVGA Hydro Copper water blocks for GTX 1080 ti x2 in SLI and EKWB monoblock for Rampage VI Extreme. Thermaltake PETG hard line tubing, misc. fittings including EKWB and Thermaltake fittings (approximately $2000 in water cooling parts). I also have 2x Asus addressable RGB LED strips mounted in the case. I started this build in March, which was the worst time ever to start a computer build, in terms of pricing on parts. I at least waited to buy the GPUs.

Also, I would like to note that my CPU has been delidded and liquid metal applied. I also have used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut thermal paste on the GPU, and on top of IHS for CPU. I also used those awesome CableMod Pro sleeved cables for the EVGA 1600 W PSU!

You can see in one photo that I also fabricated up an aluminum plate (below the motherboard tray) in order to route the ATX/VGA power cables and I installed pass through bulkhead fittings in the plate. I also installed bulkhead fittings in the center console in order to have a clean looking pass through without ugly grommets.

I installed a small 7" HD screen in the tower to keep an eye out on thermals and frequency (I purchase on Amazon for around $75 but had to buy right angle micro usb for power and a right angle micro HDMI to HDMI cable). Also works well for when I push her into living room for some VR gaming, so I have a little screen to open the applications and get Steam running (sure beats hooking up a monitor and sitting it on top of the case).

Don't think you can reproduce this build for the price in the parts list. This would cost you more along the lines of $10k.

But it wasn't all fun and games. The first Asus X299 Rampage VI Extreme board was defective. It would absolutely freeze up randomly, including in BIOS. I bought a EVGA X299 Dark to verify it was that. Also, one of the two EVGA Hydro Copper water blocks shorted as soon as I booted the system after installing water cooling system. I freaked out because it went up in a poof of blue smoke. The RMA process went well for both, sort of. The Asus RMA was fine. Got a new board. But EVGA sent me a beat up used water block, which sucks because it is such a cheap item, and I have spent a lot of money with them. This was my first water cooling build, and first time for hard line tubing. I think it came out looking good. It took me like three weeks to get the tubing done right. She is a beast now. I want to upgrade to (2x) RTX 2080 ti with water blocks, but they are really not available yet at a decent price.
