Build Updates
Small (big) overhaul in progress, kinda
In my infinite wisdom I've decided that I needed to make a few changes to this build which mostly brings it back to what Darkintosh originaly was. Though, after looking at the parts list of Darkintosh in it's final state, I decide this should keep with the Mai Studio build. Some changes are done and some are coming up soon.
Case: Corsair 7000D > Fractal Define 7 XL.
The 7000D is a nice case but even for me it was a big too big. Also, if I had it in black I may have kept it but my reasons for going (back) to a Define 7XL are mostly cosmetic. Though, one thing I forgot is how much I had to shoehorn two 420mm radiators that are 44mm thick. They barely and I mean VBARELY fit when you include the fans and all.
GPU: Red Devil 6900 XT > Reference 6900 XT.
This is simply because at one point I parted-out this build when I wanted to leave PC building all together (heh). But now that I am back, I still wanted a 6900 XT and the reference was the best deal. And now that they are out of stock I am glad I snapped it up when I did.
GPU Waterblock: Alphacool > Aquacomputer.
This is partly because I went from the Red Devil to reference design, and mostly because the Aquacomputer block with the copper looks so good. I am a sucker for copper.
Speaking of the GPU, yeah it's not vertically mounted which would be best for showing off that waterblock. I am in search of a riser cable that will work with this case. Right now I have an Asiahorse cable on order but if anyone knows of one let me know. I tried the same Corsair cable that i was using in the Corsair case but the mounting holes do not line up with the standoff location on the Define XL and just using the riser without securing it leaves the gpu flapping about.
CPU Waterblock: Optimus Foundation Silver > Black.
While I like the waterblock the silver stands out too much in this build so I need to pick up the black version in the next few weeks or so.
Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum > Dominator RGB.
This was also parted out and, while I like the last Dominator Platinum that didn't have RGB they just aren't available anymore. I still like the Dominator for their stability and overclocking capability (thought I have not OC yet) so next best is just set the RGB to a decent color and call it a day.
Also, once the GPU is in its final position those soft tubes will be replaced with glass tubes. I have the material and tools to finish it but I did not want to do that twice since glass is difficult (for me) to work with.
