Build Updates

NVME Upgrade Western Digital Black SN750 EK Heatsink via PCIe Card

I installed a Western Digital Black SN750 NVME SSD with a factory installed EK Heatsink via PCI Express 3.0 x 4 card

Rebuild, Upgrade, Cleaning.

Tearing down and rebuilding to clean, and replace some fans. Swapping out the PSU for an EVGA 850-GQ I got as a bundle with the RTX 2080. It has a smaller footprint, and more efficient then my 10 year old Ultra X3 1600 Watt.

PSU Up/Downgrade. near silent after

Swapped out the Ultra X3 1600 Watt PSU, and installed an EVGA 850 GQ fan down orientation. Made a lot of extra room to mount the Samsung 850 Pro flat against the motherboard tray, and Corsair 120MM clear red LED exhaust fan in the bottom to show it off. I gain efficiency and lower noise, but lose 750 Watt/ 46 amps. This rig maxes out at around 500 watts measured with a Kill-O-Watt meter. I especially like the Eco switch so the fan only comes on when under load.

Fan Upgrade

Replaced some fans that were making noise. Much quieter now. Nothing fancy just standard cheap fans from corsair parts store get the job done. I will use RGB MagLev fans in my next build. This board has no support for RGB as I built it new in 2014. Also the fact that it is a server Chipset might have something to do with it. I was going to use some blue fans I had, but decided to go with no led in the front.

NVME Upgrade Samsung 970 EVP Plus via PCIe Card w/ Heatsink

I added a Samsung 970 EVO Plus with a RIITOP PCIe 3.0 x 4 card adapter Heatsink.
Some say the heatsink is a bad idea as NVME SSDs need to run hot, not cold.
I have a Western Digital Black SN750 with factory EK heatsink Pre-ordered, So I am currently researching that effect.
