My DIY RGB iTX Test Bench
STORY ABOUT THE BUILD:
- As I wanted to save my money for a case, I reused a laptop table to make a DIY test bench. I first started with an Intel Pentium G4600, Gigabyte GTX 1050 Ti single fan, 2x 8GB DDR3 (yes, you can use DDR3 with Kaby Lake), m-ATX Asus H110M-C D3 motherboard, and an unknown-brand PSU. It was great but it was laggy for Assassin's Creed: Unity, so I upgraded to i7-7700k. Feeling that using a non-OC board with 7700k is not right, I bought Asus Strix Z270-iTX, Corsair H100i V2, 2x8GB Trident Z RGB, and then got a Strix 1080 Ti OC in October 2017 for $700, right before the mining craze hit high-end cards. Thanks to the open-air bench, switching out hardware was very easy for me as I had continuously sold and bought used hardware on r/hardwareswap (Trident Z RGB made me tons of profit during 2018 summer, before RAM price dropped).
- Now I finally ended up with this: From Intel 7700k to AMD Ryzen 7 2700x, 2x 16GB of Trident Z RGB at 3333MHz, 2x 8GB of Corsair Dominator Platinum Contrast Special Edition (I have two RAM kits), Asus Strix X470-iTX board, an extra Gigabyte GTX 1070 Mini (I plan to put this into a Cougar QBX soon). Only my Strix 1080 Ti and the CPU AIO cooler are still staying with me, but I don't know much about the future. The iRGB PSU from Thermaltake and Antec Sleeved Cable, which I recently bought, really made my build look more eye-catching. Thanks for reading.
