The last 4-months were absolutely bonkers with 5 builds ending the year! My last build of 2024 is for my youngest son. He will be moving out on his own and before he does, we wanted to upgrade his current PC (Melodic Metal posted on this site). We skipped the Ryzen 9000 series since there wasn’t significant performance uplift vs. the 7000 series at time of launch (of course at the time of this writing, the 9800x3D hadn't launched). He uses his PC for gaming (SIM RACING/Looter Shooters), music composition and some Blender 3D modeling. I thought that the 7700x could give him the best of both worlds without breaking the bank account. He’s excited to be upgrading from the 3600X to 7700x. There was some great deals at Microcenter for 7000 series AMD CPUs during the 9000 launch. We talked about cooling strategy, and he wanted to stay with custom water cooling. His budget was about $2000. For his upgrade, we didn't go bonkers with the hardware, we looked for a balance of performance and cost.
Since he loves SIM RACING in his virtual Lamborghini, I thought about giving his PC some subtle Lambo vibes. We went with black and a touch of gold . . . classic Lambo colours. I found a Lamborghini badge online to affix to the front glass panel. I also found very nice black and gold carbon fiber vinyl used to highlight parts of the case and hardware. I spray painted both rads gold. There is no official radiator support for the bottom of the H6, but that never stopped me . . . I made it fit 😂. In addition to the rads, I also spray painted a few components gold such as the GPU backplate and the flat radiator mounts. I also added two 45mm fans just above the Alphacool flat reservoir to maximize case airflow.
For tubing, we decided on black ZMT soft tubing to emulate the hoses you see in engines. Working with the ZMT black soft tubing was by far easier than hard tubing and definitely took less time. We were not attempting 100% perfect runs because we wanted to simulate some "randomness" seen in actual engine hoses. I used gold EK Torque rings to the EK fittings to match the Lambo theme. Everything fit just right! I especially appreciated the adequate space in the back of the H6 for cable management.
Overall, the H6 was a joy to build in and the theme fit my son's need for speed!
