Before teardown....wouldn't POST, assumed it was a bad IDE drive.
Apparently the RAM and OS had been upgraded
USB ports in '99? who knew!
First assembly boot loop. 2 RMAs later and it worked
Installing Windows 10, so satisfying to finally get to this point.
All buttoned up and ready.
Craig vs Billy, Billy is twice as heavy and a couple inches taller
Runs like a dream!
My workstation score actually increased from Aircraft carrier to Nuclear Sub!
Userbench Temps after reinstalling. The other tests maxed out around 40 C
Fits pretty snug!
The SSD next to the new heatsink
Diskmark Temps before the heatsink
Diskmark temps in HW montior (no heatsink)
Userbench Temps before heatsink
Beige Billy - My '99 Gateway Super Sleeper
This is a sleeper build I've been planning on for a while. A few years back I managed to snag several old desktop towers and a few busted laptops from a phone/computer repair person for $25. Over the years since I tried working on them (too far gone), experimenting, and finally, selling them to local repair folks. This is the last one and the oldest of the bunch. I held onto it for the case, of course.
*My current pc Craig is running windows 7 pro with half new/half used hardware ive steadily upgraded. With win 7 support ending next year, I plan on building a fresh win 10 build using this tower, and a few parts from the current build (namely my gtx 1070).
The build is centered around this case, a Gateway LP Mini Tower TB3 Performance 700 from the Pentium 3/Win95 days.
Im still considering which routes I want to go as far as CPU, motherboard and cooling. AMD AM4 Ryzen: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LrdrNQ AMD TR4 Threadripper: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cZ7sD2 Intel LGA 1151 coffee lake: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FVrnxG
Edit: I wound up going the coffee lake route: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7RWCGG
*My old PC Craig had some Ram and the main drive die a while back. I ended up replacing the drive and RAM, and upgrading it to windows 10. Once Billy was completed I donated Craig to my best buddy.

M.2 SSD upgraded with Heatsink
Decided to add an SSD heatsink for less than $15.
Pros:
Dropped my temps significantly during workloads
Inexpensive
Increased my Userbench score (workstation)
Cons:
Thermalpads fall apart, dont like to stick
Thermal pads too thick for double sided SSDs (had to use thermal paste on bottom side)
No instructions
Difficult to screw together
Diskmark Temps before the heatsink
Diskmark temps in HW montior (no heatsink)
Userbench Temps before heatsink
The SSD next to the new heatsink
Fits pretty snug!
Userbench Temps after reinstalling. The other tests maxed out around 40 C

July 12th: All parts purchased and shipped
Been a bit since I updated, but after some back and forth and a lot of waiting, pretty much all the parts have arrived. -CPU -MOBO* -Fans -RAM -cooler -SSD -IO adapter panel
*I had bought the board as open box, and it was missing the IO shield. First shield I bought was sent in a letter envelope and beaten to hell. Got a refund and received a much nicer one from China.
At this point in time, all that's left is for me to finish modifying the case to fit all my component. I also need to decide if I still want to reuse my GPU and power supply from my current rig. Im considering saving up for a newer GPU, since I plan to wait on assembling the build anyway.
Purchased new Power supply, working on getting a better GPU
Decided not to reuse my old PSU and GPU afterall, as I planned on giving my old system (craig) to one if my best friends, whose potato system can't even run sims 3. So far I've bought an EVGA 750 GQ 80+ Gold PSU.
Trying to get a 1080 Ti, if that doesn't work out i'll get either a 2070 or a 5700XT
GPU purchased
Managed to score a sweet MSI Duke 1080 ti on ebay for under $500! Hope to start assembly soon
Build Completed and Running, amidst setbacks
IT LIVES! Several Things happened between getting the 1080 ti and getting her running.
Craig (old PC) had RAM/HDD failure. Had to deal with that.
Billy was stuck in a boot loop after first assembly.
Replaced RAM. Didn't boot.
RMA'd PSU. Helped but still no boot.
RMA'd Board. Success!
Tested the used Corsair ram-1 faulty stick.
Ill post the video of the build as soon as Im done editing it.
