What do you get when you’re exceptional at ‘bouncing light’ in the real world or the computer? For David Knourek, the result is dynamic and impressive 3D renderings & photographs.
Since an early age, I have had a serious interest in and aptitude for design and the arts. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, I have built a successful career in graphic design, visual effects and 3D animation with over 20 plus years experience. I have worked for advertising agencies and various corporate clients, and completed projects ranging from graphic design for print, digital and complex 3D animation, video production and virtual 3D simulators.
It wasn’t until my son was born at 24 weeks premature at an astonishing 1lb3oz or 539g almost 16 years ago, that is when I really discovered my passion for photography. The early moments of the beginning of a child’s life are so fleeting, and my son was a good example with the doctors giving him a less than 5% chance of survival and they said if he does survive they expect him to have severe brain damage. Well with far less than a grade 1 brain bleed at the start, 15 years later and he is beyond awesome and quite smart even though he does struggle a little with new concepts, he blew away all the specialists with how well he recovered from so many problems and he truly is a miracle and to this day my very best friend. I was determined to learn all I could about photography so that I could capture him and document his life and that of our family as we all grow up together.
'Photography is really about painting with light, which is both challenging and very rewarding,’ says Knourek. David specializes in boudoir, maternity and fantasy photography, as well as corporate, product and architectural shoots and 3D animations. He has a keen ability to envision, plan and then create magnificent scenes. There is much energy, effort and forethought behind every photograph David takes. ‘I’m constantly trying to learn new ideas and concepts to come up with new ideas for photo shoots and pushing the envelope in what I can do with 3D rendering technology and graphic design. One of the most incredible shoots I’ve had the rare opportunity to have done twice now, was while diving with great white sharks off of the coast of Isla Guadalupe, Mexico. Capturing these massive and amazing creatures while underwater has been a life long dream of mine and it was a thrill of a lifetime!’
When not looking through the lenses of his Canon cameras, David can be found Modding and building custom high end computers or hiking and enjoying the outdoors traveling near or far from home.
