Got a new DELL Alienware AW2721D. It's awesome! But expensive...
Aside from that I got the
AlzaErgo Arm D125B Premium USB to hold both the new and old displays. Had to seriously tighten everything for the new AW tho, especially the pitch, that one had to be fastened to the point where it's almost not possible to adjust as it would just go down with the display's weight even at the slightest loosening...
Also new surge protector with 8 outlets to replace the old half-broken 6-outlet extension cord that didn't even have any protection... For peace of mind... Thankfully I live in a town that gets less rain and storms due to all the hills around us diverting clouds... That means less risk of fried electronics from lightning strikes... Surges from the distribution network are a different story tho...
The biggest disappointment was the
15€ DP1.4 3m cable from Vention I got for it, it can't handle the bandwidth required... The display would restart, depending on the game it would either be every minute or so (Mass Effect 2, Legendary Edition, with HDR on), or literally on repeat without much pause (PC Building Simulator)...
The cable itself looks very premium though, gold-plated connectors, full-metal housing, nylon-mesh jacket... "Best Displayport 1.4 Cable for Gaming" my ass, it's not even certified...
Anyway, I looked up a
list of certified cables on VESA's web page and ordered one from
Delock, being a German company that I know for a fact they make fairly solid stuff. Doesn't look as premium, but it's thicc as I'd expect from a cable capable of carrying the data required... Though maybe I should've looked for a lock-less one, it barely fits into the display, have to push in the lock... It's working great tho, PC Building Simulator doesn't cause my display to restart-loop like it did with the Vention cable...
I should now have all the necessary cables to run for the new arm, finally...
For the cables I got new a cable carrier/chain, an industrial one that's easy to open yet sturdy, gonna make it easier to manage the cables than the one I got with my desk...
Cable management pending, but I'm gonna take my sweet time doing it, make it look clean, hide everything I can.
Will post another update later...
That's a HUGE box... and heavy...
Don't mind the cables, it's provisional... cable management pending.
