A few months ago I decided I wanted to learn how to build a PC. After many weeks of watching and reading build guides (and any video or article related to pc's) I felt confident in my abilities to build one myself. (huge thanks to bitwit, jayz2cents, LTT, sci. studio, etc...)
Building it was a breeze and cable management in the NZXT S340 Elite was as simple as it should be. The hardest part was plugging in the USB 3.0 cable, dang thing wouldn't go in! Other than that everything went as planned, and it booted into the BIOS first try.
There were two things that ticked me off while setting up this pc. Windows kept acting like it had never installed, after running the setup many times over. When I finally got it to work I ended up with 5 copies of windows installed, had to delete them from the file manager. After the windows fiasco I installed the Unigine Heaven benchmark. The first benchmark came up with a 17 FPS average, WAY below where my 1080 should be at. After many continually disappointing tests, I finally figured out that for some reason 'prefer power savings' was turned on in the Nvidia control panel. After changing it to 'prefer performance' I got a much better 200 fps average.
All in all this was fun to build and even more fun to play on. It is my first experience playing anything at over 10 fps ultra low settings 720p (came from a low end 2010 dell inspiron laptop) and it has been awesome so far.
In the future I'd like to upgrade the ram to 16gb and possibly the m.2 to a 1tb nvme. Also considering upgrading the R 1700x b/c the 1st gen ryzens are bad with single core performance.
