Project RS - Spectre 2.0

Hello,

I just recently finished putting together a build that I have been planning for a bit more than a year now. I thought it would be nice to share it because for once I'm pretty happy about how it turned out!

After my first build about two years ago, I immediately thought about what I could do better or differently in the next one. So I started picturing the theme, planning what components I would use etc.

With the sole purpose of gaming in mind, my ambition was to create my dream gaming build and build the best computer I could.
I wanted an overkill rig with flawless finish.

/** THE CASE **/

While thinking and spending time on the internet looking and being inspired by other builds, there is a part that was an evidence for me since the beginning: the Singularity Computers Spectre case.

I wanted something original and as the same time the case being an acrylic manifold basically there is nowhere to hide the misery, everything in the build needs to be spotless, so that was an additional incentive for me to do the best I could.

So I went ahead and ordered the case which arrived in July. I was lucky enough to get upgraded to the Spectre 2.0, as this new version was released a couple months after I placed the order for the first version, so I was pretty happy with that as it integrated the vertical GPU mounting option that I wanted to go for.

Since the beginning I said I wanted an overkill rig so you can imagine than when halfway through my order they released the Elite Kit upgrade for the case, adding a reservoir on the front panel, it did not take much convincing from SC to get me onboard...

I’m sure there will be mixed feeling about the look of the case but I absolutely love it!

I really like the case in pictures but in real life it’s even better, the quality of the acrylic is awesome, it’s really crystal clear. Everything comes flat in a very well packed box, with instructions to put the case back together, which was really a piece of cake.

/** THE THEME **/

I doubted my choice of theme several times before returning to my original idea. I love cars so I wanted something inspired from that passion but I also wanted something clean, simple and timeless enough so I won’t be tired of seeing it in a few months. So I finally chose to go for the color scheme that the new Porsche GT2 RS was presented with, as it is a brand I really love. That’s also where the name of the project came from ‘Project RS’.

I kinda liked the idea, the car being the most performant of the 911 line, that was in this spirit that I came to put the build together.

The case took a trip to a body shop and was painted with the actual colors of the car: GT Silver Metallic and White Gold Metallic.

The idea was to use the panels of the case as the exterior of the car, so give them the right colors, and keep the components as they come out of the box, in black and dark grey, like an engine could be. And also because I did not want to paint the components in case I re-use them in a few years for another build.

The only aspect I hesitated about for a long time was the color of the fluid in the watercooling loop. Two options came to mind: red, like the car’s interior made from red alcantara or gray to stick with the theme of the exterior. I finally decided to go with gray because it seemed more sober than adding a new color with the red. In the end, I'm confident gray was the right choice, red would have been a bit weird.

/** THE CONFIG **/

The main focus on this rig is gaming, so I chose to go with:

▪️ Intel i9 9900k
▪️ Nvidia RTX 2080Ti Founders Edition
▪️ G.skill Trident Z Royal (32Go @ 3200mhz)
▪️ ASUS Maximus XI Formula
▪️ WD Black SN750 1 To NMVe
▪️ Seasonic Prime Ultra Titanium 750W

Not much to say about it, I got the parts for the build over a few months and I’ve had the CPU for some time already so that might be my only regret having seen the launch of the new Ryzen CPUs. If I had to do it again I probably would have considered AMD. But I’m still happy with my choices, not looking back on that.

About the watercooling loop, the CPU, MB and GPU are in the loop, here are the parts:

▪️ Heatkiller IV Pro HWLuxx (Only part I kept from my previous build)
▪️ Heatkiller IV Waterblock 2080 ti and backplate
▪️ EK WaterBlocks PE360 radiators * 2
▪️ Bitspower fitting (black sparkle)
▪️ Bitspower brass tubing (black blacksparkle)
▪️ InWin Polaris Aluminum RGB fans
▪️ Mayhem Pastel Light Gray fluid

And the case of course that is part of the loop.

As for the liquid, there are not many options with the Spectre case and I absolutely did not want to stain it. I wanted to go with Primochill VUE but they did not recommend it.

You might also tell me that the fans are not the best fans I could have gotten for watercooling purposes, and you’ll probably be right, but to be honest I chose them because they look good. ????

I also sleeved my own cables for the first time. I chose that PSU because it had no capacitors in the cables so it made everything easier. Also watched a lot of videos about the whole process. Again, took my time and everything went well.

To fit with the theme I went with sleeving from MDPC-X :

- Platinum Grey
- Vanilla Sands
- Carbon BTI

In my opinion it was the closest colors I could get to fit my theme, and that held true when I got the case back from painting.

All in all it was a year long adventure, from imagining to actually building it and taking the final pictures. I learned a whole lot of things throughout the process, the main thing being patience, and I'm very happy with the end result, I hope you'll enjoy it!

Thank you for reading up to this point, appreciate it. ????????
