Built in June 2018, cost around $3600 AUD, I was working 2 jobs at the time and decided to treat myself. I bought the CPU from silicon lottery de-lidded and I bought the 1080 2nd-hand for $750 AUD (in Jan 2018) which was pretty good at the time. The SSD cost $700 AUD and this was the worst value for money at the time. It was just before the new 970 evo drives came out and the price of the MX500 dropped significantly in the coming months.
I customized my Fractal Focus G case. I made some new feet out of rubber, I removed most of the optical drive tray, and I removed the hard drive tray and cut the top off it to make a cable shroud. I cut the fractal logo off the optical drive tray and glued it to the lid of the hard drive tray too. And I removed all the dust filters and made some new ones using fly-screen. I placed some adhesive foam inside the case too.
I also replaced the Cryorig H5 universal fan with a Noctua one. I glued a small piece of plastic to the back of the fan and I glued that to the CPU heat-sink. I wedged some small foam pieces where the screws normally go to lock it all into place. I also super glued some of the cable mods in place. After gluing some of the cables they went all foggy and I had to touch up a few parts with some black and white paint.
I could have saved a few $ by changing a few items (eg. buying the Z370e mobo with wifi instead of the Z370f + wifi card) but I decided to stick to the colour scheme And to be honest I've only watched 3 movies on the Blu-ray drive this whole time (LOTR trilogy, extended edition of course :p) and I think I will do without one on the next build. I spent around 3 months choosing parts for this and that was half the fun. I really enjoyed customizing the computer and I am looking forward to making another one in the future. I hope you enjoy this build.
