This project was inspired, actually, by the movie Dredd. In Judge Dredd's world, everything is decaying, and everything is huge. This project was built around the idea that everything was rusting, so I wanted it to be incredibly decayed, but at the same time i also wanted it to be very beautiful and vibrant.
What I did was to mix a chemical solution that rusts steel within seconds, not years. I then dismantled the case entirely, sprayed it, and then I applied acrylic resin-- bar top-- to it to make it SH-I-N-E like you've never seen. the whole process took about 2 days to cure both sides of each panel.
I also added about 12 pounds by mounting 2- inch steel barstock on the top of the door panels, which have no latches or hinges, and then 1- inch barstock on the bottom. I also cut the heads off of a bunch of steel beam bolts and used J&B Weld to mount them to the barstock. This plus the way the front panel looks gave it the look of an old military base.
The front panel was hand painted to give the look of rust like the rest of the case, with a custom cut screen, but instead of pouring resin on it, i simply sprayed it with three coats of laquer to give it a different shine, adding a dynamic!
The end result is, as you can see, singular and flat out beautiful.
The videos will be online this december-- i think. lots of other content coming first.
