My first preplanned PC mod from 2014. I wanted to do something as different as possible in the time when every build log on the forums was a ROG theme. So I went with a grey and white theme because I hadn't seen one yet at the time. My goal when doing a personal mod is to try to make sure it has some features that are difficult to do and rarely done, and always at least one thing that hasn't been done at the time I had only seen a couple mods with a PCI-e extender cable so I wanted to put my own spin on the vertical GPU, it was basically non-existent back then. I also removed the red SMD LEDs on the back of the motherboard and replaced them with white ones to match the theme. This might be my favorite build I have done. I handmade a custom waterfall reservoir with a trim router and router table, this was before I built my CNC, and the reservoir also has a slim DVD Blu-ray burner actually embedded inside the trim of the reservoir. That reservoir is what actually brought my first requests to make custom reservoirs for other people through the forums and started to steer me in the direction of offering custom modding services to the community, eventually evolving into my own small business I now operate full time. Grey Matter was featured in the June 2014 edition of Custom PC Mag Reader's Drives' column, and also placed 3rd in Bit-tech mod of the month for I believe it was April 2014. Nothing but great memories reflecting back on the time building this one!
