I just wanted to re post this build I did with my daughter 2 years ago. This one really got me thinking about modding at a higher level and designing my own, highly fictional chassis.

We began by looking on youtube for cool mods and ideas. She was a little intimidated from helping me with the water loop but I wanted to recapture her interest. Like most gamers, she cares more about playing the game then building the PC, and that's fine... I'm still making her build it. I found what really caught her eye were the PCs built into desks. I told her I would build the desk and she just had to put in the parts, easy right? She liked the idea of having the PC under lit glass. We also like that she has lots of space on the desk for homework. She agreed to put in the work, I agreed to add a little pink to the build, and we set out on our mission.

The shape itself is designed to be thin like an actual drawer. This way a younger gamer doesn't have to have a big gap between there resting wrist position and their knees. This seems like a small issue to go to such lengths over but trust me, for a little kid this matters. Most desk PCs are super thick like a real PC. So I worked off a 3.25" form factor. This meant a sideways mounted card with a ribbon was in order. I also wanted the whole chassis to pull out so you didn't have to clear the desk every time you wanted to open it. That posed some challenges as well but we figured that out.

All and all there is a lot more I could say and I will be adding to this bio. I used wood not metal only because personally I have much more experience with it. There are a lot of things I wish I did differently, but it's wasn't gong to be perfect AND be unique so I kept moving with the design I had. Right now I just wanna post these pictures and begin my edit on the video of the build (coming soon) as well as play some games with my kid!

I named it Gipsy Danger as Pacific Rim is our absolute favorite film to watch together. I thought the story of Raleigh and Mako fit the build quite well and matched the "half brand new, half old school" looks. So I went blue when I could on some components. Chloe loved the theme so I've very happy. The lettering is from a car emblem web site.

Some parts where salvaged. The home made bracket for the graphics card and the motherboard tray came from a friends old pc. I cut them to where I wanted with a dremel and painted them with many coats of spray on bed-liner for trucks so they wouldn't scratch easily.

Final thoughts... I think most desk PCs start as big awesome gaming PCs trying to become functional desks, and that's awesome. Ours is a little different. Ours is a desk that became a mid rage gaming PC with a thin form factor. I love how it still looks, feels and functions like actual furniture. This fits perfectly in our house... and I think I may be borrowing it, so I can tear open our other PC. the journey continues!
