I'm still holding on to the AM4 platform. This latest iteration of my build is from earlier this year (around March of 2024). I finally upgraded to the 16 core Ryzen 9 5950X when it went on sale for $350. The pictures are from when I had 32GB of RAM but I recently got another 32GB to bring it up to 64GB total. I had to downclock the RAM to 3466. I know that's not good for the infinity fabric but I didn't see a massive difference in benchmarks between 3600 and 3466 and I was able to lower the timings just a bit.
V2 of my build used the original Lian Li 011 Dynamic. I wanted a "smaller" case since I bring my PC back and forth between my house and my recording studio so I bought the Lian Li 011 Dynamic Mini. I should have bought the Lian Li 011 Air Mini, but I didn't... I ended up using a drill to widen the holes on the top of the case. The holes in the 011 Dynamic Mini are extremely restrictive for airflow compared to the original 011 Dynamic. I also had to do some modifications to the 011 Mini to fit the Liquid Freezer III 280. I also wish I would have waited for the RX 7900 GRE, but I'm still enjoying the Sapphire RX 7800XT NITRO+.
Besides all the mods I had to do to the case, I am extremely happy with this PC. As a production machine the 5950X is still a beast and as a gaming machine it's still great. Waiting until parts have become cheaper is something I should have been doing all along and I have no regrets waiting to upgrade my previous build.
**NOTE: The estimated price is about $350 off. For some reason it has my fans priced at $69.99 each. They're about $12-15 each. It won't let me change the prices for them since it pulls it from Amazon/Newegg. So take off about $350 for the correct build cost. This build is on an outdated platform (AM4) anyway so it would be around $1600-1800 to build with used parts anyway.
