Apple Power Mac G5 Black and gold mod

It was my long dream to make a G5 case mod. Yes long before Linus made his Hackintosh videos. It was also another dream of mine to make a black and gold mod with the beautiful Asus rampage V edition 10 with EK's brilliant monoblock for it. So when a G5 came up on ebay for cheap I had to pounce.

It was a long and hard build with many failings, learning new skills and the most leaks I've ever had in a custom loop (This is my 8th time doing this at least) Its finally finished, for now at least.

The build was centred around trying to mount the motherboard sideways to make the most of the natural space inside the G5. Originally the case has a upper compartment for drives which i intended to use for the psu and to retain the major looks of the case I custom made a shelf to hold the psu and allow the motherboard i/o to be accessible.

This then led to the next dilemma of the build. I wanted the back of the case to be as sleek as possible so decided to move all the I/o to the bottom in one nice uniform line. This gave me two options try to patch the famous cheese grater style from the original I/o to from one nice sheet or the option I went for is to get another G5 and take the front of that case to put it on the back of the other to create the sleek look i wanted. I ended up with 2 G5 cases anyway as Royal fail destroyed the first one....

Mounting the front of one case into the back of another was done via some basic fabricating and filler. The hardest part was moving the latch on the back for the side panel and removing the old front I/o

The last goal was to make the loo as clean as possible with most of it hidden in the basement of the case. So after making the brackets for some pass through fittings and hiding most the loop with flexible tubing she was complete.

The paint was just done with rattle cans in my back garden so isn't the best of finishes but is pretty good.

Things I would change/add

I want to add a pane of tempered glass into the side panel
I want to sound insulate the case and patch up some of the cheesegrater to aid with airflow
When i upgrade the hardware i want to get a custom distro-plate made for the bottom of the case which would just complete the build

((I still think this is better than Linus... what do you think?))

P.s sorry about the awful pictures my phone camera is not great but ill try to take some better ones in better light
