A while back I was asked if I wanted to write an article on Sweclockers.com. I could chose the topic myself as long as it contained modding/PC building. I decided to make a custom NAS system that would fit the 10" rack cabinet in my garage. The cabinet also houses my patchpannel, switch, router and home automation so i thought it would be a good place to put the NAS as well.
The design is built around a 5.25" bay HDD enclosure for 5x HDDs. The motherboard is facing forward so that it will be easier to connect the cables. The PSU has its own cutout in the side of the case to allow for airflow. Two 40mm fans in the back push air through the motherboard compartment and cool the CPU.
